5 Key Takeaways from Lendscape Live 2025

Last week, more than 110 leaders from across the US, UK, Europe and Africa joined us in London for Lendscape Live. What made the day remarkable wasn’t just the size of the audience – it was the candour of the conversation. We spoke about technology, of course, but also about culture, people, and what it really takes to move an industry forward.

Here are five takeaways that stood out:

AI’s promise is real – but execution matters

Billions are being poured into AI across industries, yet only a small fraction of pilots are creating measurable value. The message was clear: AI is not magic, it’s method. Success depends on trust in the vendor, clarity around data boundaries, and tools that fit into established workflows without disruption.

AI doesn’t replace human judgement; it sharpens it, and the future of lending will belong to finance providers that use AI to reduce noise and surface signals, highlighting the most important risks and opportunities and giving people more confidence in the decisions they make every day.

Innovation depends on culture, not just tools

We heard examples ranging from Google’s Innovation Labs to HSBC’s transformation journey, and the lesson was consistent: the best ideas collapse without the right environment to sustain them. Innovation thrives when leadership dedicates time to new growth, incentives align with experimentation, and teams feel safe to challenge ideas.

As one speaker put it, “Foosball tables don’t build culture – accountability and courage do.” Innovation is not about beanbags and slogans but rather creating the structures and behaviours that give people the willingness – and the permission – to act on new ideas.

Customer experience must stay front and centre

During panel on “Tech-Powered Customer First” one message came through loud and clear: technology should reduce friction, not add to it. Whether it’s eliminating reconciliations, creating smarter payment flows, or simplifying onboarding, the goal is the same – make finance feel effortless for SMEs.

Today, lending isn’t just about providing capital; it’s about the experience of being lended. If the process feels slow, complicated or opaque, customers will naturally move towards solutions that are simple, transparent, and immediate.

Data is the new foundation for lending

Data has shifted from being a reporting by-product to becoming the very backbone of lending. Integrations with accounting systems, risk monitoring tools, credit bureaus, and even trade and supply chain data are transforming how lenders work. Instead of waiting weeks for reconciliations or surveys, teams can act on live information to better manage risk, spot opportunities, and respond quickly to client needs.

This shift doesn’t just reduce operational burden – it changes the relationship between lender and client. A well-timed insight or early warning can build trust and add tangible value. As one panellist noted, “the quality of your data is now inseparable from the quality of your customer relationships.” In the years ahead, data won’t only tell the story of the loan – it will shape the story of the customer.

Interoperability will define the next decade

If there was one watchword for the future, it was interoperability. Open APIs and connected ecosystems mean no single platform needs to do everything – but every system must be able to work together.

This isn’t only about efficiency – it’s about giving finance providers the freedom to assemble their ideal digital stack, respond faster to regulation, and design journeys that feel personal to each client. It won’t be the biggest platforms that win, but the best-connected ones.

Looking ahead

Lendscape Live was designed as a working session – a day to test ideas, challenge assumptions, and start shaping the future of secured finance. The conversations didn’t end in the room; they continue in the partnerships, initiatives, and collaborations sparked on the day.

Finally, thank you to everyone who made the day what it was – the attendees who joined us from near and far, our partners who supported the programme, and the speakers who shared their insight and experience.

Lendscape Live 2025 brought together over 110 industry leaders in London to explore the future of secured finance and lending technology. The event highlighted five major themes: the importance of execution in AI adoption, why culture underpins innovation, how technology must enhance customer experience, the role of data as the foundation of modern finance, and why interoperability will define the next decade. These insights show how finance providers can combine efficiency, adaptability, and customer-centric design to stay ahead in a rapidly changing market.
