How cloud hosting is reshaping the way banks and lenders build, protect and grow their lending operations. Driven by advancements in technology, changing market demands and the growing sophistication of security threats, cloud hosting is rapidly becoming the ‘go-to’ model for organisations of all sizes.

Cloud computing is nothing new, but cloud technologies and services have matured to the point where the question for banks and lenders is no longer whether to move, but how quickly. Driven by advances in technology, changing market demands and the rising sophistication of security threats, cloud hosting has become the default operating model for financial institutions of every size.

Over the past few years, Lendscape has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) on a series of cloud initiatives, including the launch of our cloud-native, AI-enabling asset finance solution. That work has made the benefits of cloud hosting concrete, both for us and for the lenders we work with.

Here are the reasons banks and lenders are moving to the cloud, and why those still hesitating risk being left behind.

Agility and flexibility

In a market that shifts quickly, the ability to adapt to changing customer needs, and to accelerate the development, testing and launch of new financial products, is a genuine competitive advantage.

Our flexible, highly-configurable platform enables clients to do just that, and leveraging cloud-hosted infrastructure amplifies this agility, empowering banks and lenders to scale resources in response to demand. Moreover, cloud hosting can facilitate innovation, allowing for the integration with diverse systems and emerging technologies,

Organisations transitioning to cloud infrastructure (like AWS) from on-premise experience a 29% increase in innovation focus among staff, with productivity and efficiency rising 4.7 times. The AWS Marketplace further fuels innovation by granting access to a variety of cutting-edge technologies, complete with built-in security templates and vendor assessment components to bring new ideas to life quickly.

For a lender bringing a new receivables finance or asset based lending product to market, that speed can be the difference between leading and following.

Resilience

For financial institutions, operational downtime is not an option, and the regulatory bar has risen. The EU’s Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) has applied to financial entities since January 2025, setting explicit requirements for ICT risk management, resilience testing and oversight of third-party technology providers, with significant fines for those that fall short. In the UK, firms are subject to their own operational resilience rules under the FCA and PRA, and many that operate across both markets are aligning to the stricter standard.

Cloud hosting supports resilience by spreading systems and applications across multiple servers and data centres, with automated backups and failover built in. If one server encounters an issue, the system switches to another with no interruption to the people relying on it. This protects against downtime and reinforces the reputation for reliability that lenders depend on with their customers and regulators alike.

Key benefits of cloud hosting for banks and lenders - Lendscape Cloud powered by AWS

Security

The finance sector was initially cautious about the cloud, on grounds of security and data sovereignty, a caution that has now largely given way to adoption, and for good reason. Global cybercrime is estimated to cost in the order of $10 trillion a year and is still climbing Beyond direct financial loss, a breach not only brings operational disruption, legal liability and lasting reputational damage, but also risks incentives for innovation and investment.

Leading cloud providers now invest in security at a scale few individual institutions could match. AWS describes its environment as the most secure cloud infrastructure available, underpinned by more than 300 security services and continuous monitoring by specialist teams, and its migration research points to a marked reduction in security incidents for organisations that move away from on-premise. For a regulated lender, inheriting that level of investment is often a stronger position than trying to replicate it in-house.

Cost efficiency

Moving core applications to the cloud can deliver savings for financial institutions. Rather than buying and maintaining expensive on-premise hardware, lenders can draw on the commodity pricing of cloud services, reducing capital expenditure and avoiding the cost of over-provisioning for capacity they may never use. Additionally, with a software-as-a-service model, the running, maintenance, updating and securing of systems is effectively handled for them, lowering operational cost and freeing internal teams to focus on lending rather than infrastructure.

Sustainability

Lendscape is committed to a positive impact across our people, clients, communities and the environment, and we know our clients share that commitment. A shared focus on sustainability was one of the factors behind our partnership with AWS. Running on cloud infrastructure gives both Lendscape and our clients access to tools that improve how sustainability data is collected, analysed and managed across the supply chain, a practical step towards more responsible lending.

The direction of travel

Cloud hosting offers scalability, flexibility and resilience that on-premise infrastructure struggles to match, and it equips banks and lenders with the tools to innovate, adapt and grow in a market that does not stand still. At Lendscape, we are committed to technology that helps our clients deliver great lending experiences and stay ahead of the curve.

The extension of our partnership with AWS lets us offer cloud hosting to every client, whatever they run on our platform, an important step in our continuing work to drive transformation in commercial finance.
